This DVD documents the
building of a complete custom electric guitar right from cutting down the tree
as a source for the timber, to the final twang through an amplifier. This
provides an in depth understanding of what is involved in the construction of
an electric guitar.
The DVD runs to 3 hours 26 minutes and is divided
into 40 chapters so that the DVD can either be watched as a single documentary
or accessed as a reference for guitar building. In addition, a short chapter is
included by the providers of the music for the DVD. This is professionally
filmed with professional supporting music.
This is NOT simply a guitar
assembly DVD but a guitar BUILD so that the complete process can be
seen. This is of interest not only to guitar builders but anyone who would like
to see the process. This also provides a background for anyone wishing to
repair or modify an electric guitar.
Rather showing something like a
Stratocaster or Les Paul design, a completely unique design is documented. If
the DVD is used as a guide to building then of course established designs could
be followed, but the DVD shows the bigger picture! Carried along with superb
quality music written especially for this DVD, the process of the guitar build
is shown in an entertaining way whilst retaining accuracy and detail with
close-up footage, multiple camera angles, graphics and animations.
The
tools and facilities used are DIY level so this is a realistic prospect for a
guitar builder rather than showing a guitar build in a factory which in many
ways is quite a different approach. Included in the package is a 16 page full
colour booklet with additional detail and discussion about guitar building.
This unique and novel approach to showing guitar building is essentially all
that is needed to either understand the process or indeed build a quality
custom electric guitar.
The build stages are divided into 40 chapters
for easy reference which include, cutting down a cherry tree, cutting the log,
kiln drying, thicknessing, fretboard shaping, cutting fret slots,
mother-of-pearl cutting, inlaying the fretboard, truss rod fitting, neck
profiling, neck and headstock cut, fretting, neck shaping, body cutting, body
shaping & sanding, spraying, polishing, gold plating, potting pickups,
electrics, earthing, nut cutting, setup and final test. |
